Lukashenka appoints new head of General Staff

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made appointments in the leadership of the armed forces and the Ministry of Defense.

“Viktor Gulevich has been appointed Chief of the General Staff – First Deputy Defense Minister,” BelTA reported on Thursday.

Until now, Gulevich commanded the troops of the Western Operational Command. This post will now be taken by Igor Demidenko, who previously worked as Chief of Staff – First Deputy Commander of the North-Western Operational Command.

Andrey Zhuk has been transferred from the post of Commander of the North-Western Operational Command to the post of Deputy Defense Minister. The North-Western Operational Command is now headed by Alexander Naumenko, who previously headed the Suvorov military school in Minsk.
