Lukashenko Instructed Foreign Ministry To Organize Negotiations To Normalize Situation On Border With Lithuania

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, taking into account the appeal of the Lithuanian authorities, instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize negotiations to normalize the situation on the border. BELTA reports this with reference to the press service of the Belarusian leader.

According to the report, Lukashenko heard reports from the Chairman of the State Border Committee, General Konstantin Molostov, Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov and Chairman of the KGB, General Ivan Tertel, on the situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian and Belarusian-Polish border.

“As it became known from the Lithuanian authorities today proposals were received to resolve the situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. In connection with this, the President heard reports from the Chairman of the State Border Committee, General Konstantin Molostov, Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov and Chairman of the KGB, General Ivan Tertel, on the situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian and Belarusian-Polish border,” the press service reported.

Taking into account the appeal of the Lithuanian side, the President instructed the Minister Foreign Affairs to organize negotiations on the normalization of the situation and the resumption of the full functioning of checkpoints on the joint border – with the participation of Lithuanian authorized persons responsible for this area, noted in Minsk.

According to the message, interdepartmental coordination and provision of other assistance in conducting negotiations was entrusted to the State Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Volfovich.

On October 29, Lithuania closed the border with Belarus for a month, making exceptions for a number persons.
