Macron called Ilham Aliyev

On August 4, French President Emmanuel Macron called Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

According to the press service of the head of the Azerbaijani state, during a telephone conversation, Emmanuel Macron expressed the concern of tension in the region in recent days, noted the importance of continuing negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the implementation of the provisions of a tripartite statement of November 10, 2020. Macron said France is ready to support the continuation of the dialogue between the two countries.

President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Armenia committed another military provocation, as a result of which, on the territory of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeeping forces were temporarily deployed, Azerbaijani soldier died. The head of state said that the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan stopped this provocation, took the necessary response measures, and noted that all responsibility for the tension has been laid down on Armenia.

President Ilham Aliyev noted the need to ensure the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Armenia and elements of Armenian illegal military units from the territory of Azerbaijan, which continue to be present in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. However, the Armenian side still did not provide this, which, in turn, is a violation of the official Yerevan provisions of the statement of November 10, 2020 and the failure of Armenia of the obligations taken.

The head of the Azerbaijani state emphasized that as a result of the agreement reached with the Ministry of Defense of Russia in accordance with the provisions of the tripartite statement, the route of the new road, an alternative Lachinsky corridor, and the Azerbaijani side completes the construction of this road. As soon as these works are completed, according to the tripartite statement of November 10, 2020, Russian peacekeeping forces are provided for this road.

During a telephone conversation, an exchange of views was held on other issues representing mutual interest.
