US military activity in the Caribbean is directed against Venezuela because of its natural resources. This was stated by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, speaking at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas at a meeting of the “Grand Caribbean Parliamentary Meeting for Peace.”
“We are being targeted because we have the world’s largest oil reserves. If Venezuela did not have 30 million hectares of fertile land, if it did not occupy a strategically important position and did not have the world’s largest oil reserves and fourth largest natural gas reserves, we might not even be mentioned,” Maduro said.
The Venezuelan President also accused the US of manipulating the international media.
“They want to impose a narrative that legitimizes a war against Venezuela. This is part of a plan to prepare for regime change and plunder our vast natural resources. The truth is that Venezuela is innocent. Everything that is being done against us. is aimed at war and regime change. As a people with a rich history, we will not compromise our honor one iota. The US rhetoric against Venezuela is full of slander,” he said.
Maduro stressed that Venezuelans want to live in peace, solving their problems in the spirit of independence and sovereignty.
“Our Latin American and Caribbean brothers and sisters must know that Venezuela is fighting for independence, sovereignty and the right to peace are the struggle of the entire American continent. Our victory will be the victory of all America. We speak peace against imperialist lies,” he concluded.
US military activity in the Caribbean
US President Donald Trump previously signed a decree providing for more active use of the armed forces to fight drug cartels “on the ground” in Latin America.
At the end of August, the United States sent to the shores of Venezuela. naval group, including a submarine and ships. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the US army is ready for operations in Venezuela, including regime change.
In response, President Maduro announced the mobilization of 4.5 million militias and the country’s readiness to repel any aggression.
Continuing US attacks on ships off the coast of Venezuela under the pretext of “fighting drug trafficking” have provoked sharp criticism from both the Venezuelan authorities and the international community, which regarded these operations as a violation of international law.
