The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) completed 36-hour exercises aimed at checking the response mechanisms in the case of the largest nuclear accident in the world.
The agency’s statement notes that these were the world’s largest exercises to respond to nuclear emergency (Convex-3), in which more than 75 countries and 10 international organizations took part. The exercises were held on the basis of Chernavoda nuclear power plant in Romania.
During the 36-hour simulation testing, global response mechanisms were worked out to the script of a nuclear emergency. The release of significant volumes of radioactive materials was simulated, which allowed the participating countries and organizations to coordinate protective measures, the statement said.
Magate also stated that it would analyze the reviews of all participants to determine the best practices and identify areas that require improvement.
