Magnitude 7.4 Earthquake Occurred Off Coast Of Mindanao In Southern Philippines

An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 occurred off the coast of the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines.

As reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was 20 km east of the city of Santiago.

The source of the tremors lay at a depth of 60 km. There were no reports of casualties or injuries.

According to local media, the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Philippines issued a tsunami warning after the earthquake.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 also occurred in Papua New Guinea

USGS reported that in Papua New Guinea, located, like the Philippines, in the Pacific seismic belt, an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred.

It is noted that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km southeast of Manus Island.

The Philippines and Papua New Guinea, the countries with the greatest seismic activity in the world, are located in The Pacific Ring of Fire, also known as the “Ring of Fire”.
