Marco Rubio Held Telephone Negotiations With Chancellor Of Germany And Foreign Minister Of UK

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held telephone conversations with German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz and British Foreign Minister David Lammy. This is stated in the statement published by the US State Department.

Rubio congratulated the Merets on the election of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany according to the results of the second round of voting in the Bundestag on May 6, emphasizing the importance of the American-German partnership. The parties confirmed their commitment to joint efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

Friedrich Mertz has become the tenth Federal Chancellor of Germany since the Second World War, having received the approval of the Parliament after the conclusion of the Coalition Agreement between the CDU/CSS Bloc and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDPG) following the extraordinary elections that have passed on February 23.

During a conversation with the British Foreign Minister David Lammy, Rubio again voiced the US position in the war between Russia and Ukraine. He noted that Washington’s priority task is to terminate hostilities and promote the immediate ceasefire.

Rubio also expressed support for a direct dialogue between India and Pakistan, urging the parties to continue efforts to strengthen mutual communication and preserve the ceasefire.
