On the night of June 12 to 13, 1941, more than 6 thousand Moldovan families survived the worst nightmare in their lives – deportation, the President of Maya Sandu says on the occasion of the anniversary of tragic events.
The head of state reminded, in general, about 20 thousand people – priests, mayors, teachers, entrepreneurs from villages and cities – were driven out and exported in wagons for the transportation of cattle to Siberia and Kazakhstan under the muzzles of machine guns. “Wives and children were separated from their husbands and fathers, there was not enough water, and only salted fish were often given to food,” Sandu stated, the text of the message of which is quoted by Moldpres.
The head of state emphasized that the color of the Moldova nation overnight became the “enemy of the people.”
“The Stalinist regime was afraid of citizens who defended national values and opposed the violation of the basic rights of man and human dignity. This is the wound of our people, which is difficult to heal. The past in which our grandparents or parents were sent for compulsory work or killed for that who they were, and not for the fact that they did something, still hurts us. The only way to honor their memory is to resolutely withstand crimes against freedom and the right to life, ”the head of state said.
In his message, Mayan Sandu President also says that until recently, we all believed that these tragedies remained in the past, and that we would not allow the stories to repeat and entire families to be killed or deported from our own houses.
“Such crimes have been taking place in Ukraine for more than a year, and the Kremlin regime attacks a free nation simply because he wants to decide their fate in its own way. The Republic of Moldova will continue to help our neighbors saved from the war. We will continue to be solid with Ukraine , because we inherited this lesson from our grandparents, faith, philanthropy and freedom – our main values, thanks to which we will find ourselves in the family of civilized peoples of Europe, in the European Union in the near future, ”concluded the president.
