Meeting of Prime Minister of Scotland with President Erdogan caused discontent in London

British Foreign Minister James Cameron in a letter addressed to the Scotland government, expressed his concern about the absence of an employee of the British Foreign Ministry at a meeting of the Prime Minister of Scotland Hamza with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Dubai.

According to the newspaper The Telegraph, Cameron sent a letter to the Scottish government after the Yusuf meeting as part of the 28th conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention (COP28), which took place in Dubai.

In a letter, Cameron noted that the presence of an employee of the British Foreign Ministry at meetings of Scottish delegations with representatives of foreign states violates the agreement.

Cameron also stated that although the Scottish delegation in Dubai was accompanied by an employee of the British Foreign Ministry, he was not informed about the meeting place of Erdogan and Yusuf.

The publication claims that there is also a question of disagreement of the Government of Great Britain with the appeal of Yusuf and Erdogan to stop fire. In his letter, Cameron emphasized that Scotland and Great Britain “at the international level act as a united front.”

Cameron said that in the event of further violations, the British authorities will refuse material and technical support and the organization of meetings of the officials of Scotland with representatives of foreign states.

In his letter, Cameron also spoke out against the activities of foreign representative offices of the ruling Scottish National Party, which he called “small embassies.”

Sources told the newspaper that Cameron threatened to close representative offices in Paris, Berlin and Washington. According to the publication, the pursuance of another foreign policy on such sensitive issues as gas caused discomfort in London.

In response to Cameron’s letter, the representative of the office of Prime Minister Scotland said that they had no intention of excluding British officials from the delegations.

The representative said that the employees of the British Foreign Ministry knew about a meeting with President Erdogan and were invited to this meeting, emphasizing that officials were present at all other meetings.

He added that when a meeting began with President Erdogan, British officials were far from the meeting place due to changes that occurred at the last minute.

Yusuf, who was adopted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the framework of COP28, in his message about the meeting noted that the humanitarian situation in gas was discussed: “It was necessary to immediate and strong ceasefire. Many innocent children were killed and this should stop.”

We recall that Yusuf in September met with the Prime Minister of Iceland in New York and did not want employees of the British Foreign Ministry at this meeting. James Cleverly, who at that time, also threatened to take measures to take measures on the Scottish prime minister.
