U.S. technology company Meta has begun sending notices to young users in Australia demanding they close their accounts and download data as part of a ban on under-16s using social media.
A ban on popular social media for under-16s comes into effect in Australia on December 10. However, Meta became the first company to announce measures to comply with it and began to inform users.
The company sent thousands of text messages and emails to young users with information that accounts belonging to the “suspicious age group” will be blocked on December 4.
“Today we are starting to inform young users who will be affected by the ban. This will allow them to preserve their contact information and memories,” the message says.
