Minister Of Energy Of Turkey: Atomic Energy – Economic Necessity For Turkey

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Alparslan Bayractar noted that atomic energy is an important source that provides clean and continuous energy.

“Atomic energy for Turkey is not just a dream, it is an economic necessity,” he said.

Acting at the discussion of the role of atomic energy in global development, organized as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (PMEF), Bayractar said that in Turkey they expect an annual increase in energy for at least 4 percent.

“If you add to the equation such elements as” big data “, artificial intelligence and digitalization, then this demand will increase even more. We must satisfy this demand and invest in our installed capacities. A third of energy in Turkey is produced from coal, but it becomes more difficult to create new capacities, and funding is also difficult,” Bayractar added.

noting that the natural gas is politicized and subjected to the influence of artificial sanctions and geopolitical events, Bayractar emphasized: “Fluctuations in natural gas prices do not give us rainbow signals. As for the production of hydroelectricity, we almost exhausted our potential”.

explaining that interest in renewable energy sources is manifested all over the world, Bayractar continued:

However, these are intermediate resources. When the sun does not shine and the wind does not blow, there are problems with production. Therefore, we need a pure basic source of energy. Atomic energy for Turkey is not just a dream, it is an economic necessity. A pure basic energy source is necessary for our growing economy, and atomic energy meets this requirement. “

.”

The minister, indicating the need to build another 8 reactors in addition to 4 blocks under construction at Akka NPP. According to him, to ensure affordable energy and increase the reliability of supplies, small modular reactors with a capacity of 5 gigavatts are also needed.

Akkui NPP – the driving force of our economy

Alparslan Bayractar noted that projects in the field of atomic energy can be evaluated in three main parameters: demand and sentence, economic and social aspects.

Noting the importance of the contribution of these projects to the national economy, Bayractar noted: “If you look at Akkui NPP, then there is a tremendous growth around the project. Thanks to Akku NPP, about 300 companies, from industrial to construction, created an ecosystem around the project. In addition to thousands of employees of these companies, more than 30 thousand people are currently working on the project site.”

Bayractar said that Rosatom has conducted a responsible process in this regard and made a significant contribution to the development of society in the city where the Akkui NPP is located.
