The Minister of Internal Affairs of France Bruno Retayio advocated the introduction of a ban on wearing a hijab (head of the Muslims) at universities.
Speaking on the air of the RMC television channel, the minister commented on the topic of a possible ban on hijab in higher educational institutions.
to the presenter’s question about the prohibition of hijab at universities? ”Retayio answered in the affirmative.
“Yes, I want this, because I see how Islamism develops that is not related to the traditional Muslim creed,” he said.
According to the minister, we are talking about “Islamism, which imposes its flags and values, including ideas according to which a woman should occupy a subordinate position in relation to a man.”
He emphasized that such phenomena require special vigilance.
Retayio also stated that his position should not be perceived as hostile to Muslims.
“Political Islam distorts the faith of Muslims,” he said.
Commenting on its resonant words “death of the hijaba”, which caused a wide public resonance, the minister noted that he did not refuse the essence of what was said.
Recall, on March 26 in Paris, the minister uttered the phrase from the stage: “Long live sport, Down with the hijab!”
In France, since March 2004, a law prohibiting the wearing of religious symbols, including hijab, has been in force in primary and secondary schools. However, universities are currently excluded from the action of this law.
