The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported plans to create a military police.
As reported in Telegram of the defense department on Monday, the military police “should become a military formation with law enforcement and will be included in the system of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine”.
Military Police will be created on the basis of military law enforcement in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Separate powers will be transferred to it for operational-search activities and pre-trial investigations of war crimes in the war zone.
The purpose of creating a military police indicates the maintenance of discipline among military personnel of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defense and the State Service of Special Transport (GSST).
On the basis of the Committee of the Parliament of Ukraine on Law Enforcement Activities, a working group operates, the tasks of which are the creation of a working model of military justice, part of which will be the military police. Now the bill is at the stage of approval.
It is supposed to achieve compatibility of the military police with the relevant structures of NATO member states.
