The contribution of the Uzbek people to victory is the annals of genuine courage and heroism. This was said by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a commemorative ceremony in Victory Park in Tashkent on Thursday, May 8, the press service of the head of state reports.
Following the traditions of recent years, the head of state laid a wreath to the Oda Resistance monument. “All this is the annals of genuine courage and heroism. We have the right to be proud of our brave people, who have made a worthy contribution to such a complex and glorious victory. We must not forget this heroism, it is necessary to convey these facts to the youth. This is especially important in the current alarming time. Each of us should be ready to defend our homeland every day,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of February 19, the country is widely celebrated in the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II and the Day of Memory and Honors. Sincerely recall those who gave their lives for the peaceful life of future generations. Particular attention is paid to now living labor veterans and older people, care and honor are manifested.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the armed forces, state and public organizations, Mahalley activists and respected elders. Participants laid flowers to the monument.
The head of state also examined the composition “Light of memory” installed in the park. It is dedicated to the heroism of the Uzbekistians who fought at the front and worked in the rear. The monument is made in the form of two soaring birds symbolizing the continuity of generations.
The composition combines historical heritage and contemporary art. By the QR code posted on the monument, visitors can learn about the complex and heroes of the war, download the book “Light of Memory”.
According to archival data, almost 2 million people from the total population at 6.8 million took part in the bloody battles against fascism. Of these, about 540 thousand were killed, 158 thousand were missing, over 50 thousand people died from unbearable torture in concentration camps, more than 60 thousand returned from the front with disabilities.
