Moldova And Montenegro Enhance Cooperation On Way To European Integration

Moldovan President Maya Sandu visited Montenegro on Monday, May 19, at the invitation of President Yakov Milatovich.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen bilateral relations and activate cooperation in the process of joining the European Union, the press service of the head of the Moldavian state said.

Montenegro is a candidate for joining the European Union since 2010 and began negotiations on entry in 2012. The Republic of Moldova, also on the path of European integration, seeks to expand the dialogue with the countries of the region, which have longer experience in this process. Sandu’s visit has given the opportunity to exchange opinions and advanced experience regarding progress on the path of reforms necessary for joining the EU.

During the meeting with President Milatovich, the main attention was paid to specific steps on the European path of the two countries, compliance with European standards, dynamization of economic relations, as well as situations in the field of security in the region. The visit program also included meetings with Prime Minister Milako Spacy and Parliament speaker Andriy Mandich.

“Moldova and Montenegro are on the same way – the way to the European Union. I had good negotiations with my colleague, President Yakov Milatovich, as well as Prime Minister Milakoyko and the speaker of Parliament Andriya Mandich. We discussed how we can more closely cooperate on this path so that the peoples of both countries live better,” said Sandu.

following the results of the visit, a memorandum of cooperation in the field of European integration will be signed, which provides for the exchange of information, experience and advanced practice between the two states in support of the process of joining the EU.

The head of state also visited Western Balkans Cyber ​​Capacy Center – a regional center for strengthening cyber protection, created with the support of the European Union, France and Slovenia.

The President expressed interest in the development of cooperation in the field of cybersecurity necessary for national security and the protection of democracy.

The official visit to Podgoritsa confirmed the commitment of the Republic of Moldova of European integration and the desire to move forward through strong partnerships and the exchange of experience with other states in the process of joining, the press service of the Moldovan leader said.
