MOM: number of internally displaced persons in Sudan after April 15 exceeded 1 million

The number of internally displaced persons in Sudan in connection with the conflict in the country that began on April 15 exceeded a mark of 1 million people, reports Interfax with reference to the data of the International Migration Organization (MOM).

According to the organization’s estimates, 319 thousand people also left the country: of which 132 thousand arrived in Egypt, 80 thousand – in the Chad and another 69 thousand – to Southern Sudan.

At the weekend, it became known that the parties to the conflict in Sudan managed to reach an agreement on the ceasefire for seven days through the mediation of the United States and Saudi Arabia. This is the seventh of such an agreement that the parties to the conflict in Sudan concluded since April 15 – all previous agreements ended up in the end.

According to some reports, on Wednesday night in certain areas of the Sudanese capital of Hartum, clashes continued.

The UN believes that 25 million people – half of the inhabitants of Sudan – urgently need help.
