Movlam Shikhaliev demands to return confiscated property

The former head of the Investigative Department of the abolished MNB Movlam Shikhaliev filed an appeal to the decision of the Baku Military Court, said Haqqqın.az lawyer Shikhaliev Jajun Yusifov.

Yusifov said that he did not agree with the decision of the Baku military court: “The guilt of Movlam Shikhaliev was not proved at the trial. In addition, the property that was not related to him was confiscated. The appeal was filed for both characteristics,” he said.

According to the charges, in 2008-2014, when Movlam Shikhaliev served as the head of the main investigative department, the ex-head of one of the departments under the administration of Vusal Alekperov, ex-deputy head of the department Yasin Mammadov, ex-deputy head of the department of Sahib Alekperov as part An organized group extorted large amounts of money from businessmen. The investigation established reasonable suspicions that Shikhaliev, as part of an organized group, extorted funds totaling 14 million 292 thousand manat, as well as someone else’s property for 5 million 77 thousand manat, abusing the authority and falsifying evidence. A long trial ended on September 21 of this year. The Baku military court sentenced Shikhaliev to 12 years in prison. In addition, property of 7.7 million manat, belonging to him and his family, was confiscated.
