NATO Opens Its First Representation In Middle East In Jordan

NATO and Jordan signed an agreement on the opening of the first diplomatic representative office of the Alliance in the Middle East.

According to NATO, a bilateral agreement on the creation of the NATO Office (NATO Liaison Office, NLO) in the capital of Jordan, Amman was signed by the special representative of the NATO Secretary General Khavier Kolomina and the head of the Jordan Mission, the ambassador of Yusef Batainin.

The decision to open an office, which will become the first diplomatic representation of the North Atlantic Union in the Middle East, was announced in July 2024 at the NATO summit in Washington, the District of Colombia.

This step indicates the desire of NATO member countries to strengthen the alliance policy regarding the southern neighborhood, as well as strengthen its presence in the region.

It is expected that after signing the agreement, the office will be opened in the near future.
