New York, Panel Discussion Dedicated To Turkish-American Relations Took Place

A panel discussion took place in New York, in which they discussed the history of Turkish-American relations, as well as their current state in recent years.

The organizer of the event, which took place in the “Türkevi”, was the Office for Relations under the Administration of the President of Turkey.

In a panel discussion entitled “Outside the Alliance: Reflecting Turkish-American Relations in the Changing World”, the constant representative of Turkey at the UN Ambluchea Ahmet Yildiz, the Consul General of Turkey in New York Muhittin Akhittin Yazal, representatives of diplomatic missions in New York, as well as numerous guests from Turkish and American communities.

Before the first session of the panel, a short video of the history and current state of Turkish-American relations was demonstrated, after which a video message of the Head of the Relations Department under the President of Turkey Fakhrettin Altun for participants in the event was heard.

as part of the first session of the event entitled “Strategic Relations, Global Influence: Türkiye and the USA”, an assessment of the history of relations between the two countries to the present day was evaluated.

The first was a member of the Security and Foreign Policy Council under the Presidential Administration and Chief Advisor to the President Professor, Doctor of Sciences Chagra Erhan. He recalled that the first interaction between the two countries originated in the field of navigation in the early 1800s.

Erkhan noted that in addition to historical relations, relations between Turkey and the United States continue in defense and education, and also drew attention to the target indicator of the annual trade between the two countries of $ 100 billion.

Erhan pointed out that with the advent of US President Donald Trump, a new era began on world relations, and also emphasized the strategic position of Turkey in the current conditions.

The Turkish politician also expressing the hope that the strategic relations between the two countries in the field of trade, defense and socio-cultural issues will reach a higher level.

In turn, a member of the Security Council and Foreign Policy under the Presidential Administration, Doctor Chagatai Ozdemir, shed light on the development of relations between Turkey and the United States, mainly during the Second World War and the Cold War.

“We are in the period of the transformation of the international system. In the era, when there is a redistribution of forces on a global scale, strategic partnership must be taken into account, both the historical context and flexibility. Allied bonds between Turkey and the United States have successfully adapted to the order after the Cold War and continue to integrate in front of the new challenges,” he said.
