In Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, more than 600 illegal mining sites have been closed as part of the fight against illegal mining.
This was announced by the Director General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Agency (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
According to him, recently in operations Significant progress has been made in combating illegal mining. Audi said that during the operations, more than 600 illegal mining sites were identified and closed.
According to him, at least 500 people, including foreign nationals, were detained during the operations and appropriate legal proceedings have been initiated against them.
Illegal mining in Nigeria is causing damage to the environment and leading to deaths due to collapses.
