Nigerian President Accuses US Of Unjustified Pressure On Religious Issues

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemned the US decision to relist his country as a “Country of Particular Concern” for religious freedom.

In a post on his social media page of US Company X, Tinubu stressed that Nigeria does not tolerate any form of religious persecution.

“Nigeria is a democracy governed strictly by constitutional guarantees of religious freedom. Since 2023, our government has engaged in open and constructive dialogue with leaders of Christian and Muslim communities, addressing security issues without differences in faith or region,” the head of state noted, commenting on the statement of US President Donald Trump, who claims that Nigerian Christians “are under existential threat.”

Tinubu called the assessment of the head of the White House “out of touch with reality” and emphasized that it ignores the sincere efforts of the authorities to protect religious freedom for all citizens.

“Religious freedom and “Tolerance is an integral part of Nigeria’s national identity. We reject and do not tolerate any form of religious oppression. The country’s Constitution reliably protects the rights of all faiths,” the president said.

The head of state reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation with the United States and the international community in protecting religious communities.

Earlier, on October 31, Donald Trump, in a publication on the Truth Social platform, declared Nigeria a “country of particular concern” due to alleged massacres. Christians.
