Olympic champion from Azerbaijan elected president of Federation in Russia

Two-time Olympic Fencing Champion on rapiers Ilgar Mamedov was elected to the post of President of the Fencing Federation of Russia (FFR), reports TASS.

Mammadov, who previously served as the first vice president of the FFR, was the only candidate for the head of the organization. The 56-year-old specialist replaced Alexander Mikhailov at the new post, which headed the organization since 2009.

Mamedov was born on November 15, 1965 in Baku, in 1987 he graduated from the Azerbaijan State Institute of Physical Culture, in 2008 – the Diplomatic Academy of Foreign Affairs of Russia, participated in four Olympics, twice – in Seoul-1988 and Atlanta-1996 – became owner Gold team awards, in 1989 also won the world team gold championship in Denver.
