Initially, on May 9, Uzbekistan was celebrated as Victory Day, but from March 2, 1999, in accordance with the Decree of the First President of Islam Karimov, the date was renamed on the day of memory and honors.
For the first time, this day was officially celebrated under the new name in 1999 with the participation of Karimov.

Today, 82 participants in the war live in the country, the oldest of which is 114 years old. By decree of President Shavkat Mirziyev, each of them received 10 thousand dollars and the right to free treatment in state medical institutions.
