Parliament of Hungary will consider entry of Sweden and Finland to NATO

The State Assembly (Parliament) of Hungary will begin to consider agreements on the entry of Sweden and Finland to NATO on March 1 and, possibly, ratifies them next week.

This was announced on his website HVG, which became known for the draft agenda of the upcoming meetings of the country’s highest legislative body.

“According to our information, in accordance with the proposals of the agenda, on February 27 and 28, the parliament will consider other issues, and the general debate about the membership of Sweden and Finland in NATO will only begin on Wednesday, March 1. Thus, voting on This issue may take place next week, ”the publication specified.

The Hungarian government previously supported the intention of the two countries to join NATO and expressed the hope that the parliament ratifies the protocols about their entry in February. At the same time, both Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Peter Siyyarto promised to try to make sure that the solution to this issue would not be delayed. Siyyarto introduced the deputies the relevant bills on July 14, but during the autumn session of the parliament they were not considered.

Finland and Sweden submitted applications for joining the North Atlantic Alliance on May 18 last year, saying that events in Ukraine pushed them to this step. The protocols about their entry into NATO from all 30 countries of the Alliance have not yet ratified Hungary and Turkey.
