Mazhilis (Lower Chamber) deputies of the Parliament of Kazakhstan agreed to amend the senators to the law, which provides for the introduction of a ban on wearing clothing items covering the face in public places. The document is aimed at the signature of the head of state, reports zakon.kz.
The relevant norm has been introduced into the law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the improvement of law enforcement service, housing and social protection of law enforcement officers, special state bodies, civil protection and military personnel, as well as excluding excessive legislative regulation in the field of internal affairs bodies”.
On June 19, Senator Nauryzbai Baikadamov said that the law “On the prevention of offenses” introduces the norm on the ban on wearing in public places of clothing that impedes the recognition of persons, with the exception of medical purposes, weather conditions, the performance of official or labor duties. This measure, according to him, increases the effectiveness of the prevention of offenses committed in public places by improving the possibility of recognizing persons.
Wearing religious clothing in public places has been discussing in Kazakhstan for several years.
