Pashinyan Is Ready To Change RA Constitution If CS Does Not Approve Peace Treaty With Azerbaijan

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that if the Constitutional Court does not approve a peace agreement with Azerbaijan, he personally initiates changes to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, Armenian media write.

“This peace process and the peace treaty should not be missed. We will try to convince our public in order to make this change to achieve a sustainable and long -term world,” Pashinyan said, speaking on Monday at the second international forum “Yerevan Dialogue”.

According to him, if the Constitutional Court decides that the contract is fully complies with the Basic Law, then there will be no obstacles to its ratification in the National Assembly.

“After ratification in parliament and signing by the president, this document will acquire the highest legal force in Armenia, reassuring Azerbaijan’s concern. The peace treaty must be signed, and this is our main message,” the prime minister said.

Pashinyan also noted that the Constitution of Azerbaijan contains certain territorial claims against Armenia, but the Armenian side deliberately did not raise this issue, hoping that the agreed text of the peace treaty would address this problem.

“Armenia is ready to sign at the same time a peace treaty and document on the dissolution of the Minsk OSCE group,” he added.

According to him, Armenia accepts the summons of the dissolution of the Minsk group and is ready to move forward, but I would like to make sure that both countries are equally perceived by the current situation.

“We consider it a constructive approach and offer to have two documents on the table and sign them at the same time,” Pashinyan emphasized.

He added that Armenia offers to sign a peace treaty and at the same time apply to the OSCE with the question of the dissolution of the Minsk group.
