Pashinyan Party discusses exit from CSTO

The ruling faction in the Armenian parliament is discussing the issue of the country’s withdrawal from the organization on collective security or freezing membership in it, said deputy Gagik Melkonyan.

“Now we have come to the moment when our country is in a difficult situation, and neither the CSTO nor Russia help us,” said Melkonyan, whose words are given by the Armenian media.

.

According to him, the only supply of weapons during the 44-day war of Armenia and Azerbaijan was a dagger, which the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu presented his Armenian colleague Arshak Karapetyan.

The United States can sell weapons to Yerevan, if it leaves the CSTO, says Melkonyan. “Yes, this is a preliminary condition, they want us to leave the CSTO,” said the deputy.

The United States did not officially put forward such a public requirement. The pro -government deputy did not specify, but stated that this is the condition. And the ruling faction of the beginning of the discussion on the issue of withdrawal from the CSTO or freezing of Armenia membership, Molkonyan assured. “Similar issues in the faction were proposed, they are discussed and will be discussed, we have not yet voiced the final result,” the deputy said.

Former Minister of Defense David Tonoyan from the imprisonment said that CSTO membership never interfered with military purchases in the West.

If Pashinyan wanted to defend Armenia as much as his power, he would have found ways to purchase weapons, the former deputy minister of defense, Republican Artak Zakaryan noted. Russia is the main supplier of weapons, but not the only one, the former official said. “The list of countries supplying weapons to Armenia is quite diverse, in particular, Armenia acquired weapons from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, India, Jordan with whom she had cooperation in various formats,” Zaryan noted.

If it does not work to agree with the United States, then Armenia may conclude an agreement on military cooperation with Iran – both in terms of the purchase of weapons and in terms of joint exercises, Zaryan added.
