Pashinyan: Yerevan will leave CSTO if he considers her “incompetent organization”

Armenia will decide on the withdrawal from the organization of the collective security agreement (CSTO) if it considers it a “incompetent” structure. This was stated on Monday at a press conference, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, reports TASS.

“If Armenia de jure decides to withdraw from the CSTO, this will happen after Armenia records that the CSTO has left Armenia. Such a summons exists if the CSTO becomes an invalid organization. Then we will have to solve our issues ourselves safety, ”he said.

Pashinyan noted that the country’s participation in the CSTO exercises in Kyrgyzstan is now being discussed. “The participation of Armenia in the exercises of the CSTO is now being discussed. It is also additionally discussed that if we participate, then in what format and to what volume,” Pashinyan said.

He stated that the statements of Western states cannot significantly affect the connection of Yerevan and Moscow, especially since relations are as transparent as possible. “On the agenda of Armenia’s relations with the EU and the USA there is no question about breaking ties with Russia. It is otherwise that we began to discuss the topic of security with Western partners. We did not affect it before, since we believed that there was an architecture of security in the region that de- Yura should be reliable. The statements of Western countries cannot significantly affect the relations of Armenia and Russia, especially since these relations are as transparent as possible, ”he said.

Armenian Prime Minister announced intensive negotiations between Yerevan and Baku and expressed the hope that the parties would be able to agree on signing a peace agreement in the near future. “Armenia remains a committed peaceful agenda in the region. And we hope that in the near future we will come to an agreement on the text of a peace treaty and will be able to sign it,” Pashinyan said.

He believes that in order to achieve peace, Yerevan and Baku should mirror their troops from the border.

“The mirror withdrawal of troops from the border, in our opinion, will serve as ensuring stability. The mirror allocation of the troops of Armenia and Azerbaijan should be made in accordance with the cards approved in 1975 by the General Staff of the USSR,” said the politician.

Pashinyan said that in the United States, the Foreign Minister of Armenia and Azerbaijan began a more direct and open dialogue. “One of the important factors of negotiations in Washington was that from some moment the parties switched to a more direct and open dialogue. At least this is our impression,” he said.

Armenian Prime Minister hopes that at a meeting with Putin and Aliyev it will be possible to agree on communications. “It is unlikely that in Moscow we will be able to sign a peace agreement, as the meeting will be held on Thursday. We hope that it will be possible to come to an agreement on the opening of regional communications,” he said.
