Pentagon: United States is ready to use nuclear weapons to protect South Korea

The United States is committed to the obligation to use ordinary and nuclear weapons in order to contain and protect South Korea.

This was stated by the head of the Pentagon Lloyd Austin at a joint press conference with the Minister of National Defense of South Korea Lee Jeon Sop in Seoul.

“Our commitment to the protection of the Republic of Korea is still indestructible. The United States is firmly adhered to obligations in the field of expanded deterrence, which involves the use of a full set of US military means, including conventional and nuclear weapons, as well as anti -missile defense,” the minister said.

According to him, in 2022, the DPRK made an “unprecedented” number of provocations. The United States, along with South Korea, he noted, condemn these “dangerous actions”, which, according to the parties, destabilize the situation in the region.

Austin noted that 28.5 thousand American troops are serving in South Korea, this is one of the largest US military contingents abroad.

“This demonstrates our unshakable commitment to maintain the world on the Korean peninsula. Over the past year, our countries have achieved significant success in deepening cooperation,” the head of the Pentagon added, emphasizing that the parties against the background of “threats” from the DPRK strengthened response and take it teachings.
