A new study conducted in the United States showed a sharp decrease in the faith of citizens to the “American Dream”.
according to the survey, about 70% of Americans no longer believe that hard work guarantees success, and the share of those who believe that they have high chances of improving their living standards have decreased to almost 25%. Journal (WSJ) and Norc Public Affairs Research Center, covered 1527 respondents and was dedicated to Americans’s views to the country’s economic future.
The survey results showed that they no longer believe in the American Dream, according to which hard work necessarily leads to success, which is the highest indicator over the past 15 years.
It also turned out that the share of people who believe that they have high chances of improving their living standards have decreased to almost 25%, which is the lowest in 1987.
moreover, more than three quarters of the participants are not sure that the next generation will live better than they themselves. Economics
“America becomes a nation, pessimistic about the economy,” follows from the results of the surveys. The survey also showed that 90% of the democrats and 55% of the Republicans have a negative view of the economy for themselves and their children.
The survey noted that “dissatisfaction with the economy” goes beyond the limits of demographic borders: most women and men express negative views, while this does not depend on the level of income – higher or lower than a certain threshold. The growth of positive estimates of the economy has been noted by 38%, and now 44% of respondents estimate the current state of the economy positively.
Professor of the University of Stanford University, Neil Mahoni called the current situation “sad”. “One of our greatest virtues as a country is our endless optimism,” he said.
