The head of the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV, visited in Istanbul the “Home for the Aged Little Sisters of the Poor,” known as the “French Asylum for the Poor.”
While in Turkey on an official visit, the Pope continues his meetings in Istanbul. On Friday, November 28, he visited a nursing home where about 60 people live in need of treatment and care.
In his speech here, Pope Leo XIV thanked for the attention and warm welcome shown to him.
Noting that the word “elderly” risks losing its true meaning, the Pope said that in a social context where productivity and material values predominate, the sense of respect for older people disappears, while older people are a treasure for their grandchildren, families and the entire society as a whole and the embodiment of the wisdom of the people.
The head of the Vatican, after talking for some time with the six nuns caring for the people living here, left the nursing home.
In connection with the visit of the Pope, extensive security measures were taken in the surrounding area.
