Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with the players of the women’s national football team immediately after their triumphant meeting at the Gürsel Axel Stadium in Izmir.
Having contacted the team with the assistance of Justice and Development Party MP from Izmir Ceyda Bölünmez Çankırı, the head of state warmly congratulated the athletes on their well-deserved victory.
“Heartily I congratulate our women’s national team on a confident 3:0 victory in the return match after a 0:4 defeat in the first. I look forward to new bright achievements from you and a repeat of this success,” Erdogan emphasized.
The President paid special attention to the infrastructure of the stadium, which became the arena of the historic match. “Gürsel Aksel is one of the key sports facilities that we have built in Izmir in recent years. We built this stadium in memory of Gürsel Bey. It turned out to be modern, multifunctional and of the highest quality. Our girls fully justified its level with their skills. Once again, I congratulate the entire team and coaching staff,” summed up the Turkish leader.
