President Erdogan: Direct Negotiations Between Russia And Ukraine Can Take Place In Istanbul

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took part in an online meeting of the leaders of the Coalition of Volunteers on the issue of Ukraine.

The head of the communications department of the Turkish Presidential Administration, Burhanettin Duran, reported this on the social network NSosyal.

According to this information, the latest developments in the war between Ukraine and Russia, steps to end the war and peace efforts were discussed at the meeting.

“At the meeting, the President said that Turkey will continue diplomatic efforts to promoting direct contacts between the parties in order to quickly achieve a just and lasting peace. President Erdogan said that direct negotiations between the parties can take place in Istanbul. Turkey maintains contacts with Ukraine and Russia for this purpose,” Duran noted.

The President expressed the opinion that the truce covering energy and port infrastructure could become a favorable basis for negotiations between the parties on concluding a comprehensive peace agreement.

Meeting participants, which brought together representatives from 35 countries and exchanged views on the measures needed to achieve lasting peace.

Present at the online meeting along with President Erdoğan were Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Head of Communications of the Presidential Administration Burhanettin Duran, Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign and Security Policy Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Deputy Chairman of the Security and Foreign Policy Council Çağrı Erhan, as well as Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of the Party AKP Omer Celik.
