The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said this in his address to the participants of the World Telecommunications Development Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The head of state noted that in accordance with the document “Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development”, the development of the digital economy is defined as one of the main strategic directions of development of our country. “We attach special importance to cooperation between the public and private sectors in this direction,” the President of Azerbaijan emphasized.

Aliyev noted that today Azerbaijan occupies a leading position in the region in terms of 100 percent coverage of the population with broadband Internet. According to him, the country is also among the leading countries in the field of digital identity.

The head of state pointed out that the field of communication technologies has become a leading force in the non-oil economy of Azerbaijan and has achieved stable growth rates over the past four years.

The opening ceremony of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25), held jointly by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, was held at the Baku Convention Center Republic of Azerbaijan.
