As a result of armed clashes with the militants of the Clan del Golfo criminal group, 15 police and 12 military personnel have died in Columbia over the past two weeks. This was stated by the President of the country Gustavo Petro in his account on the social network X.
“We will not retreat. Operations against this criminal organization will be strengthened. There is no other way for them: either they will refuse illegal activity and begin to work for the benefit of their regions within the framework of the law and democracy, or an international alliance will be created against the Clan del Golfo, which will reach even their allies in Dubai,” Petro emphasized.
The President also published the names of the dead police and the army, saying that “folk children are systematically killed.”
On the group Clan del Golfo
Clan Del Golfo, also known as Gaitanistas de Colombia (AGC), is the largest criminal group in the country that arose after the breakdown of right -winged militarized formations in 2006. According to estimates, the number of the clan exceeds 1,000 militants.
The leader of Clan del Golfo, the infamous drug dealer, nicknamed Otonel (real name – Dyro Antonio Usuga), was arrested on October 24, 2021 during the joint operation of the army and police.
