Moldova President Maya Sandu expressed support for the Ukrainian people and emphasized the importance of building international assistance to Kyiv both in the military and economic and political spheres, Moldipers reports on Thursday, July 10.
.
“Let me first of all thank the President of Zelensky for his determination, and the Ukrainian people – for his exceptional courage. In Moldova, we clearly understand: your resistance protects not only Ukraine, but also Moldova. We know how valuable it is,” said Sandu at the fourth international conference on the restoration of Ukraine, which takes place in Rome.
She also thanked the Italian Prime Minister George Melony for organizing a conference and constant attention to the issue of restoring Ukraine in an international agenda. “Planning to restore in the conditions of an ongoing war is a difficult task, but it sends an important signal: Ukraine not only resists, but also prepares for restoration. For prosperity,” said the president.
At the same time, Sandu emphasized that without the ability of Ukraine, restoration will be impossible:
, however, we must be honest. All this will not matter if Ukraine cannot protect itself – now to restore Ukraine, Ukraine must resist. And in order for Ukraine to survive, it needs a lot of military support – and more fast. “
The Moldavian leader noted that for Chisinau, this issue is not theoretical, but practical, given the general border with Ukraine and the close integration of infrastructures. “Ukraine is our neighbor, our partner and future member of the European Union, along with us. We have a common border with a length of 1200 kilometers. We have a common infrastructure. And we have a common future,” Sandu said.
Sandu recalled that since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Moldova accepted refugees, the number of which is now about 4% of the country’s population, and also provided humanitarian aid, taught Ukrainian sappers and actively participated in ensuring the “corridors of solidarity”.
“But most importantly, we understand that our security is general. As the parliamentary elections approached and the more aggressive intervention of Russia, we cannot allow our 1200 -kilometer border with Ukraine to become the boundary of hostility,” said Sandu.
The head of state emphasized that the stability of Ukraine and Moldova is interconnected. “Strong and democratic Moldova is a reliable partner in the field of security. Our stability strengthens the stability of Ukraine, just as the stability of Ukraine strengthens ours,” Sandu emphasized.
