Previously unknown strain of Covid-19 discovered in Japan

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan has detected infection with a previously unknown strain of coronavirus in a man who arrived in the country from the Philippines in February. This was reported by the Kyodo agency.

According to him, this strain is “just as dangerous” as previously identified mutated samples from the UK, South Africa and Brazil.

Currently, Japan has a de facto ban on the issuance of new visas to citizens of all countries and regions of the world in connection with the discovery in the UK of a new strain of coronavirus. This ban came into force on December 28 last year, initially this measure was supposed to be valid until the end of January, but then it was extended along with the emergency regime until March 21.
