Prime Minister Of Sweden: NATO Countries Will Increase Defense Expenses

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that, in his opinion, NATO allies would decide to increase their defense costs up to 3.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

The prime minister held a press conference after a meeting with Iceland President Halla Thomasadottir in the capital of Stockholm.

Paying attention to the Summit of NATO countries, which will be held in the Hague in June, he said that NATO member countries will change the decision to allocate 2 percent of their GDP for defense expenses.

Kristerson in particular said: “I believe that at the NATO summit, which will be held in the Hague in June, NATO Sanizers will increase their defense costs to 3.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). This is the proposal of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.”

President of Iceland, Hall Tomasdottir, also noted that they visited Sweden with a crowded group for 3 days and that they have to conclude important agreements on bilateral trade and technology.

Thomasdottir emphasized: “We are more than friends, neighbors and partners. We are two allied countries.”
