Putin gave Snowden Russian citizenship

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the provision of Russian citizenship Edward Snowden.

Recall that in 2013, Edward Snowenus raised information about the methods of electronic surveillance of the American intelligence services, including the illegal wiretapping of negotiations of foreign leaders. After the publicity of secret information, the former agent left the United States, requesting a refuge at once, including Russia. On August 1, 2014, he received a Russian residence permit for three years, which was later extended for the same term. In the USA, Snowden is accused of espionage under two articles, for each he faces up to ten years in prison.
