In the next two decades, Russia will build 38 nuclear facilities with a total capacity almost equal to the current nuclear generation. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this while speaking at the AI Journey conference, TASS reports.
“As for long-term plans, in less than two decades – primarily in the Urals, Siberia and the Far East – we plan to build 38 nuclear power units. Their total capacity will be almost equal to the power of all currently operating nuclear generation,” said the head of state.
Growing potential of domestic nuclear energy will allow Russia to consistently expand computing power for artificial intelligence, the Russian leader added.
He emphasized that the Russian Federation cannot allow technological dependence on foreign systems, it must have its own technologies in the field of AI.
The President called not to stop developing AI in order to “match the speed and scale of the changes taking place.”
The head of state instructed the government and regions to formulate a national plan for the implementation of generative artificial intelligence;
He noted that AI assistants should be used in most management and production processes.
The Russian leader added that the Russian Federation proposes to partner countries to harmonize legislation regarding AI.
“Digital progress will gain momentum, technologies will soon appear that will surpass the capabilities of existing systems,” he concluded.
