Putin signed law on confiscation of property “for fakes” on Russian army

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on confiscation of property “for fakes” on the Russian army and crimes against the security of the state. The corresponding document is posted on the website of the official publication of legal acts.

The law makes changes to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and expands the list of crimes for which property confiscation may be provided.

The confiscation of money or property can come for activities aimed against the security of Russia, for public insults and discrediting the army, the document says.

The bill was submitted to the State Duma on January 22, 395 deputies became the authors of the initiative. The confiscation of property is provided for the distribution of knowingly false information about the armed forces, calls for the introduction of sanctions or to extremist activities. It is assumed to withdraw only the assets that were used in the commission of a crime. The project was the first reading in the State Duma on January 24, the second and third – January 31.
