Raby Oudzhev – First Azerbaijanis, which received status of Ironman

Azerbaijan athlete Raby Oruzhev at the competition “Isuzu Ironman 70.3” in Port Elizabeth (South Africa) received the status of Ironman.

Rabiy has fulfilled the relevant norm and has become the first Azerbaijani, which honored this honorary title. She overcame the complete “iron distance”, which includes 3.8 km of swimming, 180 km of cycle map and 42 km run in 12 hours 18 minutes 21 seconds. Our athlete showed the 18th result in its age category (athletes from 35 to 39 years old), became the 91st in the female standings and the 435th among 617 participants of the tournament.

Raby Oruzhev is a representative of Triterra Baku Triathlon Club and is trained under the direction of Alexander Mordasov. Triterra Baku Triathlon Club was founded in 2017 by Brothers Rufat and Yusif Gasanov. The purpose of creating is the development of amateur sports in Azerbaijan and the preparation of “iron people”. Ironman is a series of triathlon competitions for a long distance conducted by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). Triathlon Ironman is considered one of the most difficult one-day competitions in the world.

Race Ironman throughout the year at different points of the globe. In each of them, a certain number of places giving the right to participate in the main start of the season – the Ironman World Championship, who takes place in the Hawaiian Islands every year.

Most IronMan races begin at 7 am, participants are given 17 hours to complete the entire distance – the finish closes at midnight. There are also temporary limits for the passage of the swimming phase (usually 2 hours 20 minutes) and BELELETAP (8 hours 10 minutes). Any participant who put in these cutoffs and completed the distance to the closure of the finish, is forever the unofficial title of “Iron Man” is forever.
