Employees of the Department of the State Security Service of Georgia (SGB) detained two people in Kutaisi for an attempt to sell the Americas-241 radioactive substance. This was reported on Friday in the press service of the SGB.
“Department of the Department of State Security Service As a result of operational search work on the fact of an attempted illegal implementation of the radioactive substance detained two people. These persons planned to implement radioactive material in the city of Kutaisi for € 300 thousand,” Press Service said which quotes TASS.
in the department added that, according to the examination, the container, which was seized from the accused, contained a radioactive substance of the Americas 241 (AM241). A criminal case against the detainees opened a criminal case under an article about the illegal treatment of nuclear materials or devices, radioactive waste and radioactive substances of the Criminal Code of Georgia. They may threaten from 5 to 10 years in prison.
