“At the meeting of the leaders of the CSTO member states in Moscow on May 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid special attention to the problems of ensuring biological security in the space of the former Soviet Union.
Information on the US military-biological program in Ukraine caused a wide response. In connection with the issues of the media entering the embassy regarding cooperation between Russia and Armenia in the field of ensuring biological security, they would like to note the following.
The Russian Federation continues productive mutually beneficial cooperation with Armenia in the field of biological security. Its activation contributed to the signing in May 2021 of a bilateral intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on the issues of ensuring biological security.
A number of successful projects in the field of combating infectious diseases are implemented, as a result of which effective monitoring of the sanitary and epidemiological situation, the exchange of information, the conduct of important scientific research, the provision of technical and methodological support in the improvement of the laboratory network of Armenia and the training of specialized specialists are ensured. Thanks to bilateral cooperation in the fight against HIV Armenia, one of the first countries became one of the first countries in which the transfer of HIV from mother to child was eliminated. Joint work using the mobile laboratories transferred by Russia made it possible to prevent the plague and other dangerous infections from natural foci in Armenian territory.
At the same time, in the context of the implementation of the specified memorandum on biosopoviness, we preserve issues in connection with the incoming information about the interaction of Armenia and the USA and their allies in the biological sphere, including through the military departments. The US Ministry of Defense aims the center funded by him. Lugara in Georgia to activate joint research in the field of microbiology and epidemiology with Armenia and other countries of the region. The activities of private Western companies carrying out biological research in the Transcaucasian region in the interests of the Pentagon, and the presence of structures in the biological projects in Ukraine in Armenia, also deserves careful analysis. The United States and its allies do not explain what they do in Armenia in the immediate vicinity of Russian borders. This factor, of course, is taken into account in the context of ensuring the biological security of Russia, ”the diplomatic mission said.
