Russia asks West to soften banking sanctions

Russia asks the West to mitigate sanctions against the banking sector in negotiations on the fate of the “grain transaction”, which was concluded in late July and expires on November 18.

As Reuters reports with reference to sources familiar with the situation, Moscow insists on exclusion from the sanctions lists of Rosselkhozbank, which takes 6th place in terms of assets and is under the blocking measures of the United States, the European Union and Britain.

Russian diplomats insist that access to foreign cards and, as a result, transactions in foreign currency are restored for the RSHB. The position of Moscow is that this will allow the bank to make payments for the supply of Russian food and fertilizers, two sources of Reuters said.

Sitting sanctions against the bank is discussing with the European Union, a source at the UN confirmed the agency. According to the Western diplomat, familiar with the situation, the issue of the RSHB was also raised in Russian-Turkish negotiations.

“Grain transaction”, concluded with the participation of Turkey and the UN, allowed opening Ukrainian ports, which at the beginning of the war blocked the Black Sea Fleet, and release 10 million tons of food on the world market.
