Russia: can close access to Wikipedia

Wikipedia should comply with the requirements of Roskomnadzor to remove unreliable information about hostilities in Ukraine, or the resource will lose the opportunity to work in Russia. “Senator Alexander Bashkin said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

On the eve of Roskomnadzor sent a “Wikipedia” notification of the need to remove “false information” on the events in Ukraine, however, after it was not done, the department reminded the possibility of a fine up to 4 million rubles.

“The law is one for anyone who works in Russia, and no explanations about sources can not be an excuse to violate the requirements of the law,” said Bashkin.

He noted that the materials on Wikipedia create often citizens of Canada, Australia, who are thousands of kilometers from what is happening, while “the opinions of RT correspondents leading their reports from the scene of events are blocked.”
