Russia demanded from Iran to remove its bases from Syria?

Russia demanded that Iran remove its military bases in Central and Western Syria. On Friday, September 2, Israeli media write with reference to ASHARQ Al-Awsat.

According to the newspaper, the Russian side voiced this at a meeting in the province of Hama, which was attended by three senior officers of the Russian army and their Iranian colleagues. The publication notes that Russian representatives, arguing the demand for the evacuation of Iranian bases, in particular, said that the presence of those near the location of the 49th regiment of the Syrian army endangering it. And this unit is of key importance for the Russian side.

The newspaper also writes that the Russians demanded that another Iranian military facility in the al -Hamidi area south of Tartus – the second largest port city in Syria (after Latakia).

ASHARQ AL-AWSAT notes that Russia, engaged in the war in Ukraine, would like to maintain stability in the West of Syria, depriving the Israeli excuses or prepositions to continue the blows on this territory. The newspaper also notes that Iran used the above objects for the production and development of weapons, including low -range missiles.
