The Russian command did not allow its troops to leave the city of Liman, surrounded by the Ukrainian defense forces. This was announced by the head of the Lugansk Regional Military Administration Sergey Gaidai.

According to analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War, the Armed Forces of Ukraine can take control of Liman in the next 72 hours.

The Russian army captured Liman at the end of May. This is a small, but strategically important city for both sides. The bridgehead at Liman gave Russian troops the opportunity to advance from the north into the Donetsk region, to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
