Russia will not comply with decision of ECHR to pay compensation to “foreign agents”

Russia will not comply with the decision of the ECHR to pay compensation to the “foreign agents” recognized in the Russian Federation, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

Earlier today, the European Court of Human Rights recognized the inconsistency of Russian legislation on “foreign agents” of the Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

According to the ECHR, the quality of the law does not correspond to the Convention, and its application is not necessary in a democratic society. The concepts of “political activity” and “foreign financing” are not predictable and do not have sufficient guarantees from abuse.

The Law on the Media, “Ino-Agents” was adopted in Russia in 2017. According to him, any media that receives funding or property from abroad can recognize him. In 2019, a new law was adopted, which made it possible to reckon not only legal, but also individuals.
