Schengen visa for Turkish citizens turns into problem

The number of refusals to issue Schengen visas to Turkey citizens continues to grow compared to the period to the outbreak of Covid-19.

The level of deviations of applications from Turkey in some European countries in 2022 doubled compared to 2019.

In 2022, Estonia, Finland and Belgium are leading by the number of refusals to issue visas to Turkey citizens.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his speech at the 79th General Assembly of the Union of Chamber of Commerce and Exchange, Turkey (Tobb) called the visa problem from some Western countries by the “political blackmail” and stated that this problem is waiting for its solution.

President of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (Türsab) Firuz B. Baglykaya, in a conversation with Anadolu noted that the level of failures in 2022 increased about two times.

According to the Schengenvisainfo website, out of 778 thousand applications for the Schengen visa submitted in 2022 through representative offices in Turkey, 15% were rejected. At the same time, Russian citizens, which were under the sanctions of the EU, were denied 10% of cases, which causes bewilderment.

In 2022, cases of refusal to Turkey citizens grew by almost 2 times. If in 2019 out of 906 thousand appeals, 9.7% did not receive approval, then in 2022 this figure is 15% with 778 thousand applications.

The leaders in this negative statistics Germany, France, Denmark and Finland. European countries avoid sharing data for 2023.

They announce only the number of visas they have issued, instead of announcing information about the number of applications that they consider.
